It has been my privilege to have attended over 100 corridas at one of the most beautiful bullrings in the world, La Malagueta.
Every year has been an evolution for me as a photographer and as an aficionado.
I hope you enjoy this collection of both colour and black & white photos from the feria of 2025. Every novillero and every torero is featured and every chapter tells the story of every afternoon.

A special mention must go to Manolo Martínez and Ignacio Garibay for providing the greatest sin pics final I have ever had the privilege of witnessing.

The Risks
Almost all of the toreros in this selection were, mercifully, unharmed. The exception was Daniel Artazos, a young novillero from Valencia who was hoping to make his debut with horses the following week. He broke a C5 vertebra and is currently fighting hard to recover and make his return to the plaza. Fuerza Daniel!!!

The Eliseos Exhibition 2026
Last year, I had the honour of having an exhibition of my photographs at the Eliseos Hotel on the Paseo de Reding just opposite La Malagueta. It's a wonderful taurine hotel and I always stay there. This year, I have submitted these photographs for display. They feature Manolo Martínez, Ignacio Garibay, David de Miranda and many more. With this series of photographs, I hope to have captured some of the essence of the 2025 Feria de Agosto.

The 2025 Feria ended with Fortes and Emilio de Justo mano a mano with toros from the El Freixo ganaderia of El Juli. Tricky bulls but Emilio cut an ear from each of his opponents and the final ear of the feria was cut by Fortes. A fitting end to a fabulous feria.

Corrida 20th August 2025
Alejandro Talavante, Daniel Luque and Juan Ortega faced a disappointing set of toros from the ganaderias of Pueto de San Lorenzo and La Ventana del Puerto. Talavante did his best but had little to work with. Juan Ortega did well with his first and cut an ear but his second toro was impossible. Daniel Luque, substituting for Morante, had a great afternoon.
He found something in both of his opponents, and, despite the wind, he cut three ears and exited the plaza en hombres!!!

Alejandro Talavante, Daniel Luque and Juan Ortega faced a disappointing set of toros from the ganaderias of Pueto de San Lorenzo and La Ventana del Puerto. Talavante did his best but had little to work with. Juan Ortega did well with his first and cut an ear but his second toro was impossible. Daniel Luque, substituting for Morante, had a great afternoon.

Manuel Escribano, Roca Rey and David de Miranda with toros from Victoriano del Rio. As always, Escribano was great and cut an ear from his 1st toro. Roca Rey had a rare bad afternoon. It just wasn't his day. David de Miranda was absolutely wonderful!!! He cut three ears and left the plaza en hombres.
As a result of this performance, he was the triunfador of the entire feria. Marvellous!!! Enhorabuena Maestro!!!

Manuel Escribano, Roca Rey and David de Miranda with toros from Victoriano del Rio. As always, Escribano was great and cut an ear from his 1st toro. Roca Rey had a rare bad afternoon. Diego Urdiales, Saúl Jiménez Fortes and Pablo Aguado with some tricky toros from the ganaderia of Torrealta. Two vueltas for Urdiales after his excellent work on his first toro and an oreja for Fortes from his second were the awards for a challenging afternoon for all three toreros. Pablo Aguado had very little to work with on his first and even less on his second. Despite the toros lacking in quality, all three toreros performed admirably.

The first Corrida of the Feria and David Galván, Borja Jiménez and Victor Hernández faced bulls from Juan Manuel Criado. David Galván was incredibly brave considering how badly he had been injured the week before in Peru. His use of the sword denied him the triumph that he so richly deserved. Borja Jiménez had difficult bulls but produced much from them. He would also have been rewarded but for the sword. Victor Hernández was excellent. His first toro was very tricky but he cut a well earned ear from his second.

Sadly, Dominguez was injured by his first bull so the afternoon became a mano a mano between Martínez and Garibay.
Both toreros were magnificent and it was a wonderful final.

The third day of the novilladas sin picadores featured Vicente Sánchez, Joaquín Manzur, Alejandro González, Daniel Artazos and Antonio Arias. Sadly, Daniel Artazos was seriously hurt attempting his first quite and was taken to hospital with a crushed C5 vertebra. He is recovering but it will take some time. Vicente Sánchez cut an ear from the 1st and 5th toros of the afternoon and Antonio Arias from Malaga also cut an ear.

For the first time in Malaga, the newest members of the bullfighting school were given the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of a young vaca brava and an audience. Suerte para todos!!!
Picassiana 2025
The Picassiana on Easter Saturday was cold and windy. The conditions were dangerous and so were the Álvaro Núñez toros but Fortes, Juan Ortega and Roca Rey gave us afternoon to remember.

After all of his trials and tribulations, Fortes finally got the recognition that he has worked so hard for. He is a legend in Malaga and rightly so. Enhorabuena Maestro !!!

Manuel Martínez 23rd August 2024
Manuel Martínez is one of the new stars from the Malaga school of bullfighting. He was magnificent in 2024 and only some bad luck with the sword prevented a major triumph. He will be performing on 10th August 2025 and I will most certainly be there to document it. Mucha suerte Manolo.

XVII Certamen Internacional de Escuelas Taurinas 2024
The escuelas are where all the new bullfighting talent comes from. The novilladas sin picadores or "Sin-Pics" are one of the highlights of the Feria as you might just be able to see the next superstar of La Corrida at the very beginning of his journey.
Drama
Bullfighting is incredibly dangerous and these remarkable men risk thier lives in pursuit of their art every time they set foot on the sand. Fortunately, none of these toreros were badly hurt and were back fighting bulls again shortly after these photographs were taken.

XVI Certamen Internacional de Escuelas Taurinas 2023
15 young toreros fighting for a place on the 2024 cartel!!! The competition was won by the Valencian Simón Andreu.
XV Certamen Internacional de Escuelas Taurinas 2022
The 2022 competition was won by Fuentes Bocanegra. He has struggled to get contracts and has only appeared 7 times since these photos were taken.
